When I came to Cornwall in 2005 my plan was to find a building that had a good studio space AND a shop front, in order to showcase my own work, and also to gather together and exhibit work by various friends - people who I have studied with, shown with or shared studio space with over the years. This was the founding principle of The Padstow Studio: a circle of friends, artists whose work I know well and respect. As such, the gallery exists to exhibit and promote the work of a group of people, in addition to being a commercial enterprise.
Not everyone the gallery shows is based in Cornwall - in fact, only five of us are, while the others are spread from neighbouring Devon to distant Australia. Most of the group are also represented by well-established galleries elsewhere, and there are links on individual artist’s pages to other web sites where their work can be found.
The Padstow Studio tries to offer a constantly changing selection of contemporary paintings, drawings, ceramics and works in bronze, and aims to give visitors the opportunity to engage with and follow the development of individuals who interest them. The Artists pages are intended to give background information on each person, while the News section of the site is designed to provide information on new arrivals, or work in progress.
