Mo Farquharson’s sculptures of people, animals and birds are beautifully observed, often with an affectionate humour and warmth that communicates both the character of her subjects and their context to the viewer. Context is central to her work, particularly in the figurative series where, centred around a park bench or bus stop, the attitude and preoccupation of each individual is explored. In ‘Victoria Station’, for example, we are invited into the lives of numerous visitors to the station concourse, where people come and go, check their luggage or the arrivals board, converse or read, hurry across or simply stand and wait.
The same sympathy and attention to detail is applied to Mo’s wildlife pieces, and her fondness for them again shines through: runner ducks, a hare, an otter, a beloved pet are rendered in a style that is natural and spontaneous, but always carefully considered.Mo’s 3-D works are mainly bronze, cast in small editions (of generally no more than 7 pieces) using the lost wax process. She also occasionally exhibits working drawings and studies in pencil and charcoal. She is happy to consider public or private commissions (see the list below).
